HOW IT ALL STARTED
In 2016, the lead developer known as the user LudicrousCunningFox, who was just a teenager at the time published a game called Wild Africa, on the platform Roblox. This initial version focused on survival elements like managing hunger and thirst while navigating interactions with other species, offering a sandbox experience without defined objectives and was just a techdemo at best. Animals such as Gorillas, Lions, Elephants and Rhinos were available and videos of the project still exist on online platforms such as Youtube for you to view if you are curious about it. This project was mainly created because Ludicrous was "never satisfied" with other games that let him play as animals, therefore he wanted to create his own game and share it with other people.
As months and years went by, the project started to get a lot of attention from people and Ludicrous went on to create new animal survival game concepts on Roblox, such as Wild Forest, Era of Terror and Wild Ocean. However due to the tremendous amount of work required and some unfortunate hacking events from malicious individuals, those projects were abandoned. Later on, Wild Africa was renamed to Wild Savanna marking a pivotal moment in the game's development. This rebranding not only narrowed the focus to species inhabiting the savanna biomes of East and South Africa but also allowed the lead developer to showcase improved skills in animation, coding, and modeling. Inspirations from newly released games, such as The Isle, contributed to refining the gameplay mechanics and expanding the vision for what Wild Savanna could become.
In the later years, the game was still going through a massive teenage phase, where mechanics, and ludicrous's skills were still going through improvements and great changes. The journey was not without its struggles. The solo development effort by LudicrousCunningFox meant that progress was often slow, and the game spent years oscillating between tech demo and alpha phases without a clear end goal. However, this period of experimentation and learning was crucial in shaping the developer's skills and the game's direction. Fast-foward to 2023, where the game seems to be heading towards a clear defined goal with state of the art gameplay mechanics that imphasise on strict realism and exceed most animal survival games today in those aspects. The project also is no longer a one man project and is currently composed of another developer, Endershadow, and a team of QA testers giving helpful feedback when testing new mechanics.
MEET THE TEAM
"Greetings, i am the co-producer for Wild savanna @Endershadow, i'd like to give a little more context as to who we are and most importantly why we are doing this project. Our aim is to provide a realistic animal open world survival game experience unlike you've seen before and additionally educate a wide audience about conservation efforts on-going in the Serengeti National Park and in East Africa in a fun and innovative way. We both are very passionate about wildlife and have been since we were both children. This passion for wildlife has congregated into this project and we have been working on it with no funding whatsoever in our free time as college students. We hope you understand why updates take so long and most importantly why we decide to provide quality over quantity. Thank you for reading this message"
